Seniors defeat Bellmore 26-13

The Seniors went to Newbridge Rd Park to play the Bellmore Braves and came away with a 26-13 victory. QB John Giller started off the scoring with a 1 yard dive to give the Mustangs a 6-0 lead in the 1st quarter. Sean Gillespie kicked a successful 2 pt conversion to give the Mustangs an 8-0 lead. John Giller scored again in the 1st quarter, this time running 18 yards on a QB keep to increase the Mustangs lead to 14-0.

Bellmore would find a way to close the gap by scoring a TD in the 2nd quarter and narrowing the Mustangs lead to 14-7.

Sean Gillespie would widen that lead when he ran for a 27 yard TD giving the Mustangs a 20-7 lead going into halftime.

In the 3rd quarter, Bellmore once again scored, narrowing the Mustangs lead to 20-13 but the Mustangs would put together one more scoring drive, capped off with Sean Gillespie's 16 yard TD run, giving the Mustangs the 26-13 final score.

Mustangs Seniors defeat Plainview 22-0

The Mustang Senior team traveled to Plainview to play a 9am game. From the Opening kickoff, the Seniors had the game at hand. Behind the strong running of Sean Gillespie, Giovanni Lauro and Anthony Parisi, the Sr's offense kept moving the ball and the chains the entire game.

Defensively, Plainview was unable to get a first down until midway thru the 3rd quarter. Both the starting offensive and defensive did a fantastic job controlling the line of scrimmage the entire game. Big plays were made in the second half by Justin DeSalvo (sack) Jayden Crudele, Jack Devenish, Tyler Payne and Tre'von Smith.

This team played well for 4 quarters and must continue to play at this or above this level for the rest of the season.

Next Game is Sunday, September 25th, 1pm at Bellmore (Newbridge Rd Park)

Mustang Seniors Come Up Short

The Massapequa Mustangs Senior travel team opened up their season Saturday night against the Rosedale Jets. Rosedale is a team loaded with talent and depth and the Seniors knew that this was going to be a tough game.

Rosedale came out and scored first but missed the extra point to take a 6-0 lead in the 1st quarter. The Mustangs came right back and put together a nice drive. Behind the Offensive line of Center Justin DeSalvo, Guards Michael Pugliano, Kyle Caneda and Keith Irving and Tackles Michael Rollo and Will Ligarzewski, QB John Giller, FB Tyler Payne, RB Sean Gillespie and Tight Ends Ronan Varley and Brian Whelan, the team was able to tie the score at 6-6.

The score remained tied until 24 seconds in the 3rd quarter when Rosedale QB was able to break free for a TD and a 12-6 lead.

On defense, the Mustangs Corners Michael Augello and Giovanni Lauro and linebackers Daniel O'Callaghan, Brian Whelan, Justin DeSalvo and Tyler Payne did a great job the entire game.

With the exception of a few mental breakdowns, which are correctable, the Seniors, although undermanned this season, are in good shape to compete against a Rosedale team that will probably be one of the teams to play in the NCYFL Championship this season.

The Seniors next opponent is Plainview, a new team to the Senior Division. That game is Sunday, 9am in Plainview Park.
