MUSTANGS PRIDE

I am a member of a team, and I rely on my team. The name on the FRONT of my jersey means more to me than the name on the back. I defer to it and I sacrifice for it, because the team, not the individual, is the ultimate champion. I will go through hell and high water for and with my squad!!

MUSTANGS PEP RALLY

To all the Mustangs players, cheerleaders, family and friends:

On Friday, November 15, 2019 at 8pm , immediately following practice, we are bringing back the Pep Rally at Burns Park Gillespie Field. The purpose of a pep rally is to encourage team spirit and provide sports teams and others the chance to honor and celebrate their team in preparation for the upcoming game or event. We celebrate this the weekend of the Playoff and Championship games.

In addition to preparing for the playoff games, we acknowledge the Senior team players and cheerleaders and we have the boys and girls present their parents with a rose/flower to show their appreciation for all the years of sacrifice taking them to and from practices and games and being part of the Mustangs family.

The event is open to all teams in the organization. Your coach or team moms will coordinate for your teams. Teams can start setting up tables around the outside perimeter of the field prior to 8pm. There are no assigned areas, so first come, first served. Each team will bring their own tables, food, drinks., etc.

We ask that each player and cheerleader bring at least 2 non perishable items that night for our Mustangs Tackle Hunger program. We will collect them and store them in the sugar shack.

There will be a DJ for added fun!!

We have always had a great time in years past. It might be a little chilly, so dress accordingly.

If anyone has any questions, please contact Tara Tarasi at (516) 317-4526.

‼️MUSTANGS TACKLE HUNGER FOOD DRIVE ‼️

Dear Moms and Dads,

As those of you who have been a part of the Massapequa Mustang Family for a few years know, we have performed a Community Service at this time of the year with our “Mustangs Tackle Hunger” campaign. For many years we have been working with our local food pantries to try to provide food for the Thanksgiving holiday to needy families. Through our efforts in past food drives our players and cheerleaders were able to fill the St. Rose, St. William, St. Martin, YES Community Counseling and the Nassau County Veterans Outreach food pantries!

As many of you already know, the Food Pantries on Long Island are once again at historic lows. This year, we would once again like to try and help fill those pantries with our “Food Pantry Blitz”. What we are asking members of the Mustang Family to do will take little time and effort, but has the potential to make a huge impact on the food pantry inventory levels.

Two documents are attached to this letter: one is the flyer announcing the Food Drive that we are about to begin and the other is a “Thank You” note to those that contribute. Print 5 copies of the Food Drive flyers and cut them in half so that you have at least 10 flyers. The flyer asks your neighbors to place a food donation on their front porch on Saturday, October 26, at a time designated by you. We are asking you to have your child drop these in your neighbors’ mailboxes on Saturday October 19 & Sunday October 20. There is no knocking on doors required – just place the flyer in the mailbox. We would then ask that on Saturday October 26, after the designated time, you assist your child in collecting the food donations and then drop them off at the Mustang Equipment Building in the rear of John Burns Park between 1pm and 4pm. Again, there is no knocking on doors. There’s either a food donation or not. Print 2 copies of the “Thank You” flyer and cut them into five parts and leave one in the mailbox of each person who leaves food.

This has the potential to bring in an incredible amount of food for those less fortunate individuals who are living in our community.

Here are some key points:

1) Have your child drop the flyers in your neighbors’ mailboxes on 10/19 & 10/20. 2) Remember - No knocking on doors is required and AT NO TIME SHOULD A PLAYER OR CHEERLEADER ENTER A NEIGHBOR’S HOUSE. 3) There are two blank lines on the flyer. If you place your family name and street address there, your neighbors may be more apt to participate knowing this request came from a local family. 4) Be sure to put down the pick-up time on the flyer. 5) Be sure to leave a “Thank You” when you pick up the food. 6) Drop off the food at Burns Park between 1pm and 4pm on Saturday 10/26.

Please do not underestimate the generosity of your neighbors! Many people are looking for ways to help out during this time of year but don’t know how. You and your family will be giving them an opportunity to help.

We hope you would agree that this is a pretty painless way to get our kids involved in a worthwhile project – with your help, of course! Thank you in advance for your participation.

As always, thank you for your support!

Sincerely, Jim Harinski Massapequa Mustangs

2019 Cheerleading - Clarifying some MISCONCEPTIONS

At the conclusion of last season, it was determined by the Board of the Mustangs that a cheerleading committee had become necessary in an effort to continuously improve our program. The committee has been diligently meeting over the past couple of months to prepare for the upcoming season, and the pre-existing leader of the cheer program has been invited to those meetings.

We ask that all parents of the program understand and trust that our intentions are to continue to grow and improve our program in a manner that promoted inclusiveness in our community. If you hear something that concerns you, please do not hesitate to contact us. At this time, we feel that is imperative to dispel numerous misconceptions that have been circulating regarding the upcoming seasons.

1) Opening Day has been cancelled.
• This is not true. Opening Day will be Saturday, September 14th, 2019
• The Flag & Town Cheerleading Program will perform a professionally choreographed Cheer routine.
• The Travel Cheerleading Program will perform a Professionally Choreographed Cheer routine.
• The Senior Cheer Team will perform a Professionally Choregraphed Cheer routine
• The Rain Date for Opening Day is Saturday, September 21st, 2019

2) There is no Cheer Show this year
• This is not true. There absolutely will be a Cheer Show this year
• The Cheer show will be in October, at an exact date and time to be determined

3) The Board of the Mustangs will be running all cheerleading operations in 2019
• This is not true. The Cheer Committee that has been assembled reports to the Mustangs Board in and oversight and advisory capacity.
• As the season approaches the Cheer committee will be requesting assistance from our existing volunteers to make this season a resounding success with improved communication, with input from Cheer Moms, Cheer Coaches, Parents and Cheerleaders.
• As has been the case in the past, volunteers are needed to make the program successful.

4) Cheer Moms are being replaced, and girls may be “kicked off” their existing teams
• This is not true. It is the committee’s hope that ALL existing cheer moms remain involved and move up with their present squads.
• Likewise, cheerleaders will not be forced off their existing squads. While, it’s true that we are asking each registered player for their preferences for the upcoming season – this does not mean that players are registering to be on specific team. All registration data, including requests, will be considered when teams are selected. This does not happen at the time of registration.
• All existing travel and town Cheer moms will be contacted within the next few days requesting attendance for a group meeting to discuss any questions, concerns or ideas for the upcoming season.
In addition to the information above, you will also see improvements in the following areas:
• Online Registration: On-line registration is now the same as registering for football. It is user-friendly, and saves time. It also enables us to have full contact information for each player and volunteer. We can keep our cheer families updated through Sports SignUp Play at the same time as our football program, thereby eliminating the gaps in communication and timely sharing of information in case of game cancelations, changes of venue for a game, etc. We also ask your T-shirt sizes, so we have the information and can place the order for the Dri-Fit t-shirts at the beginning of the season.

• Mustang Cheerleading Apparel: The new 2019 Mustang apparel online store will online in the coming weeks. Check our website for the link to an amazing array of products! No more waiting in lines!
• Uniform Distribution: uniform distribution will be done in a more efficient manner in 2019.
As you can see, we are committed to improving the program to make it great for everyone - just as we have done with our football program for the past 61 years.

Regards,
Mike Ragusa

ABOUT OUR REGISTRATION AND FOOTBALL PROGRAM

Our in-house full equipment Flag (ages 5/6) and Town programs (Tackle for age 7-13) are the heart of the Mustangs organization, and are big differentiators between our town and others. Most towns do not have a Town program at all. We typically have more kids in Town than we do in Travel.

It is our goal every year to have as many kids participate in the Fall football season as possible. We would love to have Town teams at all levels (Ages 5-13), in addition to our Travel teams from ages 7+.

This is only possible if we have enough players registered. Once we see our numbers, we can make the best decisions on how to group the ages for Town.

Please help us by registering as early as you can. Don't wait!

If you are not certain if your child wants to play in the Fall, we would invite you to register, and participate some of our free workouts and summer evaluations.

If we are unable to offer a suitable option at your child's age group, we will issue a refund.

🙏🙏🙏🙏 Mustangs Family,

It is with deep regret that we inform you about a recent loss to our Mustang Family. Michelle Phelan, mother of 9 year old travel team player Peter Phelan, lost her courageous fight against breast cancer. Peter and his sister Lizzie are awesome kids and could use our support during this difficult time.

The wake is tomorrow, Friday, November 8th from 2-4 pm and 7 - 9 pm at the Massapequa Funeral Home- 4980 Merrick Road, Massapequa Park.

The 9 year old travel will be practicing tomorrow from 6-6:45 on the front turf field. At 6:45 we will walk over as a team to the funeral home to pay our respects and support Pete. If any Mustang teams would like to join us please meet us by the front turf field at 6:45 PM

Thank you to everyone in the Mustang organization during this very difficult time. The kindness and support for the Phelan family means a great deal to them. We appreciate all the love and support you have extended to us during this period of sadness.

Regards, 9 Year Old Travel Coaches

Today, the Mustangs Travel 12’s and 13’s donated 3 hours of their time to collect food for Mustangs Tackle Hunger. After all was said and done, they collected a ton of food and it was brought directly to St Rose of Lima’s Food Pantry. Even though these young men and women signed up to play football and cheer, donating their time for Community Service is also a very important lesson this organization teaches. We are very proud of everyone that came out today. You made a difference in a lot of lives today! (A big thank you to ShopRite on Sunrise Hwy in Massapequa and IGA on Park Blvd Massapequa Park for allowing us to do this at their stores)
