I am a member of a team, and I rely on my team. The name on the FRONT of my jersey means more to me than the name on the back. I defer to it and I sacrifice for it, because the team, not the individual, is the ultimate champion. I will go through hell and high water for and with my squad!!

Returning to play safely for our off-season non-contact skills and conditioning training

Dear Mustangs Families,

We are excited to announce that the Town of Oyster Park's commissioner, Joe Pinto, worked on our behalf to get approval from the Town to allow use of town fields for our non-contact skills and conditioning off-season training. We hope this is just the first step in our path to starting our season up in August.

It's very important that we return to the fields in a safe and responsible manner. If we do not, the fields will likely get shut down again. If you plan to bring your child to one of our off-season training sessions - you must:

Ensure your child is registered for the upcoming season. Unregistered players will not be allowed to participate. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER

Read, print and sign the attached guidelines and waiver. Hand the completed form to your coach at the first training session you attend. CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FORM - Massapequa Mustangs - Non-contact Skills and Conditioning Guidelines & Waiver.pdf

We will be working with our Coaching staffs to schedule and communicate training sessions by Age Group. Please keep an eye out for communication from your age group coordinator. We will be starting with the 8 to 13-year-olds. We expect the optional off-season training for 5-7 year olds to pick back up in July and August (as we typically do every year).

As always, please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns.

Preparing for the 2020 Football and Cheer season ... Update

We wanted to provide a brief update on some current activities under way as we prepare for the 2020 Youth Football and Cheer season. As we have communicated in the past, we are preparing for a full and regular season. While there is still a lot of uncertainty around us, we are starting to see more normalcy return to our daily routines, which is encouraging.

Here are a few key updates, and a few actions for you to take to help get the season started smoothly once we are given the OK:

FIELDS: We have had positive conversations with the TOB parks officials, and are hopeful that they fields will be open when our permits typically start on August 1st. We will continue to communicate regularly with the Town on this.

CAMP: We have had positive conversations with the directors of Camp Pontiac, related to the 2 night football camp that our Travel 10, 11, 12 and Seniors attend (and Travel 9 attends for a 1/2 day). Once they are given the go-ahead from the State, they will be welcoming group functions - with revised protocols and procedures. We will continue to communicate regularly with them as we lead up to our planned dates of Tuesday 8/18 - Thursday 8/20.

HELMET RECONDITIONING: We will be sending out our Mustangs owned football helmets for 2020 re-conditioning and re-certification. We have assurance from our provider that our helmets will be back by our August 1st start of the season.

A SPECIAL OFFER FOR PLAYERS THAT HAVE THEIR OWN HELMETS - SEND YOUR HELMET OUT WITH THE MUSTANGS HELMETS:

NAERA (National Athletic Equipment Reconditioners Association), NOCSAE (National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment) and helmet manufacturers recommend that Youth Football helmets are re-conditioned and re-certified every other year. If you would like to have your personal helmet re-certified this year - we can send them out with the Mustangs helmets, at a cost of $40 per helmet. To do so, you must drop your child's helmet, and a check for $40 made out to the "Massapequa Mustangs," to 55 Fox Blvd, Massapequa, by end of day FRIDAY, JUNE 12th. Please make sure to LABEL your child's helmet using masking tape and a marker. Please write "PERSONAL" and "YOUR CHILD'S NAME" and put the labels on the outside and inside of the helmet. You can put the helmet and check in a bag, and drop off on the front steps.

REGISTRATION: If you have not done so already, please register your children for football and cheer. You can register for $0 down, and only pay when the season begins (expected to by 8/1). REGISTER ONLINE NOW

As always, please do not hesitate to contact us via email or phone (gc_dietrich@hotmail.com or 917.860.9582) if you have any additional questions or concerns.

Mustangs Football & Cheer ... Register Now for $0

Dear Mustangs Families & Friends:

We hope that you and your families are safe and well during these crazy times. We are sending this message in an effort to be as transparent as possible about the upcoming Fall 2020 Football and Cheer season. To be clear, we are currently planning for a full and regular season. That would mean start dates of August 1st for Travel Football, Mid-to-Late August for Town Football, early September for Full Equipment Flag Football, and cheer leading starting in corresponding times to football.

Obviously, much of the decision behind whether or not we can start on time is outside of our control. At this point there are so many unknowns, and we are playing it day-to-day, and week-to-week. As soon as youth sports in Nassau County are allowed to begin, we will start. If that is before August 1st, we will start back up with our off-season training.

We do need your help so we are ready and prepared. If your child plans to play in the Fall, PLEASE REGISTER ONLINE NOW. You can register now at NO COST, and registration fees will only be collected when the season starts. As has always been the case, consistent with our Mission, we believe that all children should be afforded the opportunity to play football. Any and all requests for financial need scholarships, which can be made when you register online, will be handled discreetly.

We understand that the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic has presented many challenges for members of the Mustangs family, including financial difficulties. With all that is going on in the world, I am sure that there are many things that are just not top-of-mind at the moment — registering and paying for your child to play football or cheer in the Fall should not be one of them. Many families are suffering from the loss of loved ones, the loss of income, and general anxieties due to self-isolation. Some families are struggling to make ends meet, and difficult discussions are being made when it comes to the payment of bills, mortgages, etc. The last thing we would want to do is add to that stress by sending messages regarding youth sports registration fees.

Finally, we would like to say thank you to all of the essential workers within our community. We know that the Mustangs family is made up of many Policemen/women, firemen/women, doctors, nurses, other health-care workers, postal workers, truck drivers, teachers and other front-line workers. Thank you for all that you do, and please stay healthy and safe.

Please do not hesitate to contact us via email or phone (gc_dietrich@hotmail.com or 917.860.9582) if you have any additional questions or concerns.

MUSTANGS PEP RALLY

To all the Mustangs players, cheerleaders, family and friends:

On Friday, November 15, 2019 at 8pm , immediately following practice, we are bringing back the Pep Rally at Burns Park Gillespie Field. The purpose of a pep rally is to encourage team spirit and provide sports teams and others the chance to honor and celebrate their team in preparation for the upcoming game or event. We celebrate this the weekend of the Playoff and Championship games.

In addition to preparing for the playoff games, we acknowledge the Senior team players and cheerleaders and we have the boys and girls present their parents with a rose/flower to show their appreciation for all the years of sacrifice taking them to and from practices and games and being part of the Mustangs family.

The event is open to all teams in the organization. Your coach or team moms will coordinate for your teams. Teams can start setting up tables around the outside perimeter of the field prior to 8pm. There are no assigned areas, so first come, first served. Each team will bring their own tables, food, drinks., etc.

We ask that each player and cheerleader bring at least 2 non perishable items that night for our Mustangs Tackle Hunger program. We will collect them and store them in the sugar shack.

There will be a DJ for added fun!!

We have always had a great time in years past. It might be a little chilly, so dress accordingly.

If anyone has any questions, please contact Tara Tarasi at (516) 317-4526.

‼️MUSTANGS TACKLE HUNGER FOOD DRIVE ‼️

Dear Moms and Dads,

As those of you who have been a part of the Massapequa Mustang Family for a few years know, we have performed a Community Service at this time of the year with our “Mustangs Tackle Hunger” campaign. For many years we have been working with our local food pantries to try to provide food for the Thanksgiving holiday to needy families. Through our efforts in past food drives our players and cheerleaders were able to fill the St. Rose, St. William, St. Martin, YES Community Counseling and the Nassau County Veterans Outreach food pantries!

As many of you already know, the Food Pantries on Long Island are once again at historic lows. This year, we would once again like to try and help fill those pantries with our “Food Pantry Blitz”. What we are asking members of the Mustang Family to do will take little time and effort, but has the potential to make a huge impact on the food pantry inventory levels.

Two documents are attached to this letter: one is the flyer announcing the Food Drive that we are about to begin and the other is a “Thank You” note to those that contribute. Print 5 copies of the Food Drive flyers and cut them in half so that you have at least 10 flyers. The flyer asks your neighbors to place a food donation on their front porch on Saturday, October 26, at a time designated by you. We are asking you to have your child drop these in your neighbors’ mailboxes on Saturday October 19 & Sunday October 20. There is no knocking on doors required – just place the flyer in the mailbox. We would then ask that on Saturday October 26, after the designated time, you assist your child in collecting the food donations and then drop them off at the Mustang Equipment Building in the rear of John Burns Park between 1pm and 4pm. Again, there is no knocking on doors. There’s either a food donation or not. Print 2 copies of the “Thank You” flyer and cut them into five parts and leave one in the mailbox of each person who leaves food.

This has the potential to bring in an incredible amount of food for those less fortunate individuals who are living in our community.

Here are some key points:

1) Have your child drop the flyers in your neighbors’ mailboxes on 10/19 & 10/20. 2) Remember - No knocking on doors is required and AT NO TIME SHOULD A PLAYER OR CHEERLEADER ENTER A NEIGHBOR’S HOUSE. 3) There are two blank lines on the flyer. If you place your family name and street address there, your neighbors may be more apt to participate knowing this request came from a local family. 4) Be sure to put down the pick-up time on the flyer. 5) Be sure to leave a “Thank You” when you pick up the food. 6) Drop off the food at Burns Park between 1pm and 4pm on Saturday 10/26.

Please do not underestimate the generosity of your neighbors! Many people are looking for ways to help out during this time of year but don’t know how. You and your family will be giving them an opportunity to help.

We hope you would agree that this is a pretty painless way to get our kids involved in a worthwhile project – with your help, of course! Thank you in advance for your participation.

As always, thank you for your support!

Sincerely, Jim Harinski Massapequa Mustangs

Here’s a preview of one of the measures being considered to allow us to get back to full contact football while protecting our players from the virus.

Splash shields. You can find out more in the video below. DO NOT go out any buy them just yet from the manufacturer or a sports store. We have them in stock and will make them available to the Mustangs community.

All mustangs activities for Tuesday 8/4 are cancelled. That includes 7 year old, 10 year old and seniors (13 year old) practice sessions that were scheduled for tonight. The 7 year olds will move practice to Thursday 8/6 at 6pm. Stay safe.
Sunday August 2, 2020 7:10 pm
Welcome to August. The schedule below provides ...

🏈 the dates and times for our 5/6 Flag Football Clinics and 7-Year-Old Football clinics scheduled through out the month. 🏈 the 8-13 year old football evaluation schedule for the week of 8/3. Going forward, each coach will communicate their schedule for their age group to you directly via email.

🔥🔥🔥In addition to the football activities, we are planning to have summer cheer clinics scheduled through out August. More information will be shared regarding these Cheer clinics later in the week. 🔥🔥🔥

Finally, we appreciate your continued support and flexibility as we continue to navigate with a bunch of "unknowns" that are out of our control. The biggest of which are:

❓when we will be allowed by NYS to have full-contact practices and games?❓ We are working with our NYS assemblyman and senator, and Town of Oyster Bay officials to try to get a time line and the decision making criteria from the Governor.

❓will we really be allowed to go to Camp Pontiac 8/18-8/20❓ we are still interpreting the recently updated NYS guidelines. Plus we need to know if we will at full-contact level for it to be worthwhile.

We will send a comprehensive update on Thursday, after our Weds night board meeting, on the above items as well as many other items (such as the "Splash Shields" that we will be implementing for additional player safety related to COVID).

Feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns you may have.

See below on the decision made today by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYPHSAA) to delay fall sports. We do not know what impact this will have on Youth sports, but wanted to share the specifics so you are aware.

The start of the Fall sports season is delayed until a September 21st start date (instead of Aug 24th). “As the state considers reopening, it is unrealistic to believe athletic seasons can start on August 24th as originally scheduled,” said Paul Harrica, NYSPHSAA president, in a press release. “The priority will continue to be on the educational process and a return to learning in the safest way possible.”

To that end, if fall sports such as football and soccer are unable to start on Sept. 21 or cannot finish their seasons because of the pandemic, NYSPHSAA is prepared with a backup plan that will see a series of 10-week seasons start in early 2021. In that model, winter sports would run from Jan. 4 to March 13 in a campaign branded as Season I; fall sports move to March 1 to May 8 in Season II; and, spring sports play from April 5 to June 12 as Season III. Exceptions from the norm in terms of seasonal sport groups will see girls’ tennis participate in Season III, while it’s possible wrestling and competitive cheer could shift from Season I to competing in Season II or Season III because of their “high risk nature.”

The Condensed Season (Backup) plan would entail the following, with the stipulated dates being tentative.

1️⃣ Season I (Winter Sports) Dates: Jan. 4-Mar. 13 (Week 27-36) 10 Weeks *Note: tentative dates Sports: basketball (girls & boys), bowling (girls & boys), gymnastics, ice hockey (girls & boys), indoor track & field (girls & boys), skiing (girls & boys), swimming (boys), *wrestling, *competitive cheer. * Because of high risk nature of wrestling and competitive cheer, sports may have to be moved to Season II or season III.

2️⃣ Season II (Fall Sports) Dates: Mar. 1-May 8 (Week 35-44) 10 Weeks *Note: tentative dates Sports: 🏈football🏈, cross country (girls & boys), field hockey, soccer (girls & boys), swimming (girls), volleyball (girls & boys), Unified bowling. Note: Weather will have an impact upon outdoor sports in some parts of the state in March and potentially early April. Girls Tennis moved to Season III.

3️⃣ Season III (Spring Sports) Dates: Apr. 5-Jun. 12 (Week 40-49) 10 Weeks *Note: tentative dates Sports: baseball, softball, golf (girls & boys), lacrosse (girls & boys), tennis (girls & boys), outdoor track & field (girls & boys), Unified basketball.
