Mustangs 11 jump out to a fast 14-0 lead in a win over Bellmore in the rain, wind and mud.

Mason Balian followed the lead block of Ethan Cumming to take an off-tackle play 60+ yards for a TD on the first play of the game. Cumming plunged into the end-zone to make it 7-0 after the PAT. The defense, which played well all game, stopped Bellmore's ensuing drive. From there Balian again broke a long play off-tackle for a TD, which was followed by a Cumming PAT to make it 14-0. The defense held strong for the remainder of the first quarter, but gave up a long 90+ TD run on a 3rd and long just before the half. Bellmore converted the PAT, and the score was 14-7 at the half. In the second half the Mustangs moved the ball, but stalled inside the 5 yard line on two drives that should have yielded points. The defense held firm, and the boys left with a 14-7 win.

In a rematch of last years A division semi-final game, the Mustangs 11s played Mineola this past Sunday. Mineola entered the game at 2-0, while the Mustangs entered the game at 1-1 on the season. The Mustangs won the coin toss and opted to receive the ball first, with the intention of putting points on the board early. They did just that with a 7 play scoring drive that was fueled by strong runs from TB Mason Balian, and QB Ryan Fountain. The drive was capped with Balian plunging in on an off tackle play. Balian came up short on the extra point attempt, and the Mustangs took an early 6-0 lead.

After a stalled offensive drive a few series later, Mineola took the ball over on the Mustangs 30 yard line. Despite holding Mineola to two 4th down plays, the Mustangs defense allowed a touchdown, which brought the game to a 6-6 tie in the 2nd quarter. Mineola attempted a 2-pt kick, which was blocked by Charlie Battaglia and a hoard of Mustangs. The score remained 6-6 at the half time break.

There was no scoring in the 3rd quarter as the Mustangs defense continued to stifle the Mineola offensive attack. On offense, the Mustangs were able to move the ball, but could not put points on the board as penalties and sloppy execution killed too many drives.

Mineola hit a long TD pass to break the tie in the 4th quarter with 7 minutes left to play. The PAT kick was good, and the Chiefs pulled to a 14-6 lead. After driving deep within the Mineola redzone, the Mustangs offense was once again plagued with a costly penalty and a few near-miss incomplete passes that stalled the drive. Mineola regained possession of the ball, but the Mustangs D came up with a big fumble recovery. After moving the ball inside the 10 yard line, the Mustangs O shot themselves in the foot, yet again, with a devastating fumble of their own.

Once again, the Defense came up BIG as they drove Mineola back to the 1 yard on the first 2 plays. On 3rd down, the defense stuffed the Chiefs in the end-zone for a Safety - which brought the score to 14-8. With about 3 and 1/2 minutes on the clock, the Mustangs O took over on the Chiefs 33 yard line after the free kick. On the very first play from scrimmage, Balian busted a 33rd TD run - behind devastating lead blocking from Fullback Ethan Cumming, and Z back Danny Klein. With score knotted at 14-14, the Mustangs needed to gain 3rd yards on the PAT attempt to take the lead. Balian ran off left tackle and appeared to cross the plane of the endzone, but was ruled down just short of the goal line by the side judge.

Mineola regained possession with 1:45 remaining in the game, and no time-outs remaining for either team. They ran the clock out as they were unable to get a first down.

Balian finished the day with 18 carries for 129 yards and 2 TD's - thanks to the solid play of the offensive line (TE's - Moore/Garren/Murphy; T's - Battaglia/King; G's - Dunne/Prudente and C - Dietrich) and lead blockers (Cumming/Parisi/Klein). Fountain rushed for 36 yards on 6 carries, and was 3 of 9 through the air for 34 yards - including a 29 yard completion to Klein.

Defensively, Tyler Dunne and Charlie Battaglia made several big plays. Mason Dietrich, Christopher Moore and Ryan Murphy all played well upfront on the D-line.

Mustangs 11 win 19-0 over Rosedale in home opener.

The Mustangs 11 year old travel team showed up to play this past Sunday with a dominant performance on both sides of the ball that led to 19-0 win over Rosedale. The offense was able to move the ball up and down the field all day. While the defense stifled Rosedale's wishbone attack. Tailback's Mason Balian and Brett Artura gained large chunks of yardage right up the middle. Balian scored two TD's and and an extra point, all made possible by the strong lead blocking from Fullback's Ethan Cumming and Christian Parisi, and from the boys in the trenches (TE's - Chris Moore/Ryan Murphy, T's - Erik King/Charlie Battaglia; G;s - Jack Prudente/Tyler Dunne; and C - Mason Dietrich).

Defensively, the Mustangs shut down the Rosedale offense. The run defense was stout, and pass rush had the Rosedale signal caller running for his life on pass attempts. Ryan Fountain broke up several pass attempts from his safety spot, and Danny Klein capped off the scoring for the day with a pick six.

Mustangs fall in season opener to reigning champs

Garden City continued where they left off last year and notched a victory in the season opener on Sunday at Stewart Avenue Field. The Thunder took possession of the ball first, and after being held to a 4th down play they busted a long run for the first touchdown of the day. The Mustangs were unable to mount much of an offensive attack in the first half, and quickly put the ball back in Garden City's hands. After falling behind 20-0 at the half, the Mustangs defense stiffened in the 2nd half, and the Mustangs offense was able to string together some first downs before punching one in the end zone to end the game 20-7. Christopher Moore high effort drew a double team all game from his DT position, while also hustling on special teams and blocking from his TE position.
