Dear Mustang Parents, Coaches, Players and Friends,
While the snow sits on our beautiful fields at John J Burns Park and Field of Dreams, the Massapequa Mustangs Board of Directors continue to be hard at work in preparation for our 53rd season of Football and Cheerleading. Equipment has been collected and organized in our now, 3 year old, state-of-the-art building, located in the rear of John J Burns Park.
Equipment manager's Bill Kleinfelder and Mike Ragusa are already planning to purchase some new training equipment to add to our drill area, located in the front of John J Burns Park..
Our concession building, managed by Gary Lukas, has been cleaned and will be ready to go, with the addition of a new oven and refrigerator and upgraded electrical system, added this past summer. Thanks to Gary's hard work and the support of our coaches and parents, our concession revenue continues to help us keep the cost of playing football and cheerleading under control.
Our two annual awards brunches went off without a hitch, thanks to Pat Devlin and Mike Stackpole. Our Treasurer, Tim GIll, is hard at work building our budget for the 2010 season and ensuring our tax returns and insurance are in order.
Jim Carew, with the support of his team Mom's, did another great job organizing our picture day last season, which also added much needed revenue to our program.
Ron Stehn and Renny Cadolino continue thoughout the off season attending league meetings, keeping the board informed of any league related issues and potential rule changes.
John Wozniak painted our Sugar Shack and new sheds along with supporting the equipment team throughout the season.
Our newest board member, Wayne Rogers, spent his first few months on the board, learning the ropes and helping out at a number of events.
Our most senior board member, Joe Gillespie, who is closing in on 40 years of service to the organization, is enjoying some relaxing time down in Florida, with his wife Joan, but not before organizing our biggest annual fundraiser, the Mustang Golf Outing. I'm sure, it is safe to say, that Joe and Joan are already planning our 2010 outing, while enjoying sunny Florida.
A special thanks to our Cheerleading Coordinator, Linda Murphy and her daughter Erin, for another successful Cheerleading season.
One of my most enjoyable offseason projects was the launching of our new website, with the help of long time friend and former board member, Rocco Dionisio. Rocco has been constantly busy adding more and more to the site and our plans are to sell our new merchandise on the site throughout the year.
Next up are our off season elections, scheduled for February 23rd, where many of us have terms expiring and are running for re-election.
I have truly enjoyed being President over the past two seasons, along with my 15 years as a coach in this fine organization. What makes it so special is seeing so many of our young players and cheerleaders graduate our program and move on to the high school and college levels. I take great pride in seeing them run on the high school fields, hoping that we prepared them well for that level of competition and that they will always look back, with pride, that they were and always will be Mustangs!
One final note, due to all the hard work of the board and parents, relating to fundraising, we are reducing our Flag level registration fees for both Football and Cheerleading from $110.00 to $75.00. It is the goal of the Mustang board to make Football and Cheerleading affordable to everyone in our community.
I thank you all for a great 2009 and look forward to an even better 2010!!
Steve Krolikowski
